
I guess that's because I have push set in iTunes. As it is it says my last sync was in December yet if I add a test contact or calendar event it appears on my phone quickly. Okay, my computer is usually the most up to date but due to whatever reason I seem to have to reset my sync data nearly every time I hit the sync button on my computer.

As for the 25% error message, that is a threshold that you have set up to alert you that it is about to change a significant portion of your data and a friendly warning asking if you're sure you want to proceed. When you "sync now" from the MobileMe preferences it is just referring to syncing your Mac, not your iOS devices.

Before I did the initial sync I set up a group just for him in contacts and after I attached the iPhone I selected in iTunes for any contacts added via the phone to be the that new (currently empty) group and it worked like a charm! it was even easier than setting up a smart group.
